  • Ivey Chases 11th Gold Bracelet
  • How Focused Will He Be?

Phil Ivey sat out the 2021 World Series of Poker last fall, but he's back in action and already has his first cash of the series.

The 10-time bracelet winner arrived on Tuesday to compete in Event #2: $100,000 High Roller Bounty and made it through to Day 2. On Wednesday, he sat on one of the smallest stacks for a few hours before finding an opportunity to earn a much needed double up against one of the biggest stacks.

Ivey Chases 11th Gold Bracelet

With seven players remaining, the Poker Hall of Famer three-bet all in for 27 big blinds with 77 and was called by the original preflop raiser, David Peters and his AJ. The board ran out J8J24, trips for Peters, and Ivey was out in seventh place for $133,127.

The session concluded within the following hour and just five players out of the original 46 remained. Chance Kornuth, fresh off his WPT Choctaw victory, bagged a huge chip lead and will return to action on Thursday to compete for his fourth bracelet and the $1,116,810 first place prize.

Ivey is one of just four players to reach the 10-bracelet plateau, tied with Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson, and six behind Phil Hellmuth. But it's been eight years since the last time he won a World Series of Poker event, which is almost hard to believe.

How Focused Will He Be?

If the start to the 2022 WSOP is any indication, Ivey is focused and ready to become just the second player ever to win 11 or more bracelets.

Dan Shak certainly hopes so. The high-stakes poker player and hedge fund manager took Ivey in Daniel Negreanu's $25k Fantasy Draft. He bid $33 to scoop the poker legend, which could turn out to be a steal if Ivey plays a full WSOP schedule.

Each team in the fantasy draft had $200 to bid on a roster of eight players. Shaun Deeb and Negreanu, two perennial WSOP Player of the Year contenders, unsurprisingly went for the highest amounts ($111 and $110). Shak could make out like a bandit if Ivey grinds a full schedule, and he scored some early points thanks to the seventh place finish.

Ivey's tournament results in recent months have been stellar. He cashed in three events in the May Triton Poker Series in Madrid and won two Triton Cyprus events in April. For his career, he has nearly $36 million in live tournament cashes according to Hendon Mob. Now we all wait and see how much he adds on to that figure during the 2022 World Series of Poker.
